10 Movie Costumes
Tuesday again! The days go by so fast. We got summer in Sweden, it rains every other day, but still, it´s warm and mostly sunny and the evenings are so light.
10 new movie costumes, all favourites, though if I have to pick one, it has to be the first picture. Drew Barrymore look amazing in her Cinderella dress with fairy-wings.
Drew Barrymore in her Cinderella gown in Ever After (1998).
Kate Hudson in the movie-musical Nine (1992).
Carey Mulligan in black tulle in Wall Street – Money Never Sleeps (2010).
Tina Turner in a really cool action costume in Mad Max beyond Thunderdome (1985).
Julie Andrews in a funny 1960´s creation in Thoroughly modern Millie (1967).
Sharon Stone chocked me and many others in Basic Instinct (1992).
Clara Bow in a see through-dress in My lady of whims (1926).
Rosemary Clooney & Vera-Ellen in White Christmas (1954).
Milla Jovovich as action-heroin Alice in Resident Evil – Afterlife (2010).
As half-elven Arwen, Liv Tyler truly looked like she belonged to another world. Lord of the Rings – triology (2001-2003). I love this dress, blue velvet is very royal, perfect for a elv-princess.
Black and White photography
I haven´t posted anything in almost a week, instead I have been busy updating older posts. But here is a new one, with wonderful black and white photography. The American photographer George Hurrell 1904-1992 worked with everybody that was somebody. He created the glamorous black and white picture that is significant to old Hollywood. He worked with Greta Garbo, Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant, and later Harrison Ford, Sharon Stone and Sherilyn Fenn.
Brooke Shields, 1981, Veronica Lake & Marlon Brando. It is difficult to guess which picture is oldest and which picture is the newest one.
Jean Harlow, 1934, Chevy Chase, circa 1980 & Anna May Wong, 1937 (above).
Bette Davis, 1939, Sharon Stone, 1992. Sharon was the last star to be photographed by Hurrell.
Below: Jean Harlow, probably in the mid 1930s.
Betty Grable & Aretha Franklin (above).
Carole Lombard, 1935 & Sherilyn Fenn, 1992 (above).
Rita Hayworth & Corinne Calvet, 1948 (above).
Harrison Ford, 1984, Douglas Fairbanks Jr & Julian Sands (above).
Gary Cooper, 1937, Diana Ross & Greta Garbo (above).
Johnny Weissmuller, 1932 (above).
Clark Gable & Harrison Ford, 1984 (above).
Hurrell photographed the record-cover for Natalie Cole´s album Unforgettable in 1991. Second pic; Kathleen Turner & Michael Douglas (above).
Marlene Dietrich, Bette Midler, Katharine Hepburn & Shirley Temple.
Jean Harlow in the 1930s & Hurrell´s muse, Joan Crawford, 1931 (above).
Photographer George Hurrell himself (above).
10 Movie Costumes
It´s Tuesday, so here are another 10 great movie costumes. It´s difficult to pick a winner, but I think I´ll go with the Catwoman-suit. It´s latex for Christ sake.
Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder. Ursula was the first Bond-girl, starring in Dr No with Sean Connery as the first James Bond. This look is truly iconic (1962).
Sharon Stone as her character Ginger, in her famous gold sequined dress. Apparently it scratched her skin as well as it was very heavy to wear. Here with Casino co-star Robert De Niro (1995).
Larisa Oleynik in 10 things I hate about you (1999). In this picture she´s explaining her pink tulle prom dress to her strict dad.
Rita Hayworth in her famous dress in Gilda (1946).
Grace Kelly with co-star James Stewart in Rear Window (1954). She is wearing her green famous 2-piece suit, very similar to the suit Tippi Hedren wore in The Birds a few years later. Edith Head designed them both, as she designed almost all of Hitchcock´s movie costumes as well as some of the actresses private dresses. For example, she designed both Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn´s Oscar dresses.
If you grew up in the 1980´s you will certainly remember this one. Kelly LeBrock plays two teenagers fantasy-woman in Weird Science (1985). Former supermodel LeBrock later married Steven Seagal (and divorced him).
Lily Collins in an adorable fairytale-dress, as Snow White in Mirror Mirror (2012). Unnecessary fact: Did you know that she is the daughter of Genesis´ front-singer Phil Collins?
Creepy Glenn Close in her white creepy dress in super-creepy Fatal Attraction (1988).
Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse in The Band Wagon (1953). Her transparent light blue dress is absolutely wonderful.
Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns (1992). Just the coolest Catwoman ever.
